The Freedom In Creation Tour

Welcome to the Freedom In Creation Tour Official Website!

The Freedom In Creation Tour is a unique concert and art exhibition experience to benefit the work of Freedom In Creation in Northern Uganda. Visiting six cities from June 12 to June 18, our goal is to raise $10,000 for Freedom In Creation's weekly art sessions and fresh water well projects in the Koro Abili IDP camp community. Each night we will showcase the work of child artists and hear live music from singer-songwriter and Freedom In Creation partner, Alex Mejias. Also appearing will be the up and coming pop-rock band, Tim Be Told. Freedom In Creation Founder and President Andrew Briggs will also be presenting a short film and speaking on Freedom In Creation's work in Koro Abili.

This website contains all the info you need to know about the tour, so check back often for updates and news from the road. Please stop by our blog as well and leave us a comment!

Live Performances by Alex Mejias and Tim Be Told

Alex Mejias

Alex Mejias is pop-rock singer-songwriter from Charlottesville, VA. For fans of Coldplay, Guster and John Mayer, Alex's high energy brand of acoustic guitar-driven rock packs a serious lyrical punch that finds its roots in folk storytelling. Coming to the music world from the legal world (Alex holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia and is a member of the New York Bar), Alex offers a unique voice as an artist and advocate. Tim Be Told

Combining elements of soul, pop, rock, gospel and blues, Tim Be Told has emerged in the Charlottesville music scene with their own unique sound. After tracking their debut album "Getting By" in the summer of 2007 and playing their first show a mere few months later, the band has gone on to perform at various East Coast venues such as the Knitting Factory, Jammin Java, and the Satellite Ballroom. Recent winners of UVa’s 2008 Battle of the Bands, Tim Be Told (Tim Ouyang, Luan Nguyen, Andrew Chae, Jim Barredo, and Parker Stanley) continues to grow a loyal and passionate fanbase both in Virginia and beyond. With each show, the band gains new listeners with their infectious guitar hooks, captivating melodies, and driving rhythm parts; but most importantly, they hope that their music will cause people to view life through a different lens, one of honesty, hope, redemption, and change. Discussion with Andrew Briggs - Founder of Freedom In Creation

Andrew Briggs

While Andrew Briggs was born in Fairfax, Va., his "most defining time" was his seven years in Moretown, Vermont on a 100-year-old farmhouse. He attended Taylor University (B.A. Biblical Studies/English) and studied, served, or traveled in some twenty-five countries during his undergrad years. Impacted greatly by his time Kibera, Dachau, Capetown, Angkor, and Le Chambon, Briggs began to wonder, “with whom will I walk” and, “for whom will I advocate long-term?”  Briggs resigned from alternative school teaching in 2006 to pursue advocacy in Northern Uganda. He has since founded and directs Freedom in Creation, a community led arts-based psychosocial, education, and water development program empowering war affected children in Northern Uganda.Briggs has served as a guest artist, panelist, speaker, or scholar-in-residence with such institutions as the Semester at Sea Program, Johns Hopkins SAIS (Year of Water), and the Trinity Forum Academy. In his free time he enjoys reading, writing, spending time with friends and family and playing the harmonica.
